Biography

Betty Johnson is an Albertan artist, born in Grande Prairie and raised in Calgary.  While growing up in the city, she has been strongly influenced by frequent visits to the family farms in northern Alberta.  Childhood trips to the foothills, mountains, ocean, and early world travel have helped broaden her outlook.

Betty has been developing her artistic skills from a very early age, and enjoys working with a diversity of media, including numerous fibre arts as well as woodworking.  In the past two years she has concentrated on watercolour painting.

In spite of years of compromised health, Betty has pursued a great variety of interests.  These include enjoying time with her dogs, horses, and garden.  She is also an avid reader.  Betty enjoys many outdoor sports and activities, and has an affinity for the natural world.

Betty’s first art show, in November 2008, resulted in the sale of twenty-five paintings.  Her work received many positive comments including those from several well respected artists.  Betty has shown work with the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, at their 84th annual Open Water Exhibition at the Leighton Art Centre.

Recently, Betty has displayed paintings at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Western Art Gallery.
